With a holistic approach to psychology, I work with the whole person and their world, rather than singularly viewing the symptom. An integral component of this involves the family unit, whether it is the family that you have made or your family of origin.
Families usually seek therapy when something unpleasant is going on, such as the illness of a child or parent/guardian, and behavioural problems or relational problems. Family therapy can help families to work through struggles, challenges, and tough times in way that doesn’t simply make the problem go away but makes the family stronger.
“Family therapists view the therapeutic relationship as a means to an end rather than as an end in itself. Family therapists see beyond the problematic patterns in the family to the potential healing power of family relationships.” – Joseph Micucci
